సమాసాలు – Samasalu (Compound Words in Telugu Grammar)

Samasalu (సమాసాలు) are compound words in Telugu grammar. Two or more words with separate meanings join to form a single, meaningful word. This bilingual guide explains each type in English and Telugu with correct textbook examples.

What is a Samasam? – సమాసం అంటే ఏమిటి?

English: A samasam is formed when two or more words combine into one word. The first word is called the poorvapadam (పూర్వపదం) and the second the uttarapadam (ఉత్తరపదం). The sentence that breaks the compound back into its parts and explains its meaning is called the vigrahavakyam (విగ్రహవాక్యం).

తెలుగు: వేర్వేరు అర్థాలు గల పదాలు కలిసి ఒకే పదంగా ఏర్పడటమే సమాసం. సమాసాన్ని విడదీసి అర్థం చెప్పే వాక్యమే విగ్రహవాక్యం.

Example: తల్లిదండ్రులు (parents) → విగ్రహవాక్యం: తల్లియును, తండ్రియును (mother and father).
